The Girl You Lost to Meth

that was the tv show she loveD
and that was the clever word game she playeD
that was the song she used to play before she’d go ouT

It explodes in your head

Like the meth that kept her out of bed
At night
When she roamed all the time
Trying to find a peace of mind
On all the wrong streets

The same streets that call your name
At 2AM
Begging for you to come out

The same streets
That pour acid sweat into your sheets
That fry Night’s circuit
The streets that stuff cotton into your mouth
Until Night chokes and gasps for air
And tosses you out from bed
Maniacal thoughts enter your head…

Broken hand from punching the wall
Your slow motion anguish
As you watch the mirror fall
Face up

Face up
The ceiling slowly stops its spin
Was it all a dream
As the phone rings
And no one is there
The pain in your hand has gone away
The mirror is still standing
So you look away
Yes, you look away
Knowing it could be you one day
The girl you lost to meth
