The Other Side

I shall see you on the other side
Beyond the horizon's green flash
I shall see you on the other side
Where all our memories will last…

This prison entraps us both
It has your mind
It has my heart
Every day they certainly do not
See the tears
The tears of your agony
Flowing from my eyes

And what would I say to them?
Would I calculate for them
The lost hours, the lost nights, the lost laughs
Would I present them a bill
Like a doctor to an insurance company
Certainly I could assure them
That I am a new river on the map
Sometimes tranquil
Sometimes rapids into the early 15th century Pacific
Sailing now
Looking for what is beyond the end
But every morning
And every sunset and moon rising
The tide returns us to where we just were
Our own Groundhog Day

Yet it is they who are the hollow men
Playing hide and go seek in the green fields
Seeking the end of the rainbow
But we both know that is no way to find God
Because all we have to do is admire the colors
Smile, laugh, and see our reflection
And remember the promise

I shall see you on the other side
Beyond the horizon's green flash
I shall see you on the other side
Where all our memories will last

Lonely is this life
Misfortune's dwelling place
Deception and busyness
Pride and fear
Science discordant with religion
Fame and forgetfulness
An empty hallway
White walls and
Urine-soaked cold-tile
Mercenaries with charts
Stethoscopes with no heartbeat
No room for the Homeless or Jesus
Sorry Zombie Eyes
You don't belong here no more

Yet on the other side of these stale walls
Caviar and champagne and cigars
And little Timmy getting his diploma
A piece of paper with which to buy Nately's whore
Where is my door?
Where is our door?

These people
Who sometimes show up
To bring comfort
They aren't here very long
They aren't here very long
And they always sing the same wedding reception song
"I will survive"
Yes, you will
But you don't know Survival

Survival has become our mirror
And if it were to crack
Bits of pieces of light
Would trickle through
And if the whole thing were to come down?
An explosion of Light
A Big Bang with a Flowing Robe
The answer for the Eternal Tide
A glimpse of what is behind the sunset

And so that is why
Why I am able to look in the sky
And even with tears in my eyes
I can see a reflection of us
A highlight reel of the beautiful and the laughable
A prediction and projection of the potential
An array of colors unknown
And finally, a new place to call home…

I shall see you on the other side
Beyond the horizon's green flash
I shall see you on the other side
Where all our memories will last
