Puzzle Pieces II: The Problem with Dandelions

Consider the flip of a coin
And where you were born
And when you were born
And to whom you were born
And all other similar questions…

And now consider the race to convert
The quest for Africa and all places unholy
The primitivism and all the filth
We must trek through to find Truth

Well what if at the end of the rainbow
There was no pot of gold
But rather a letter that read
“Keep searching”

As children we used to blow dandelions
And wish ourselves well as white seeds
Parachuted down the yard

Dandelion leaves are at their best
When they first emerge
Before the jewelry of our wishes
Are the green leaves of true value

In some views they are vile weeds
Destroying gardens
But through another lens
They are Innocence’s nostalgia

(Not to mention diuretics and anticarcinogens)

Crests of fury dominate the sea-turf
Sending outcasts into new homes
Some of these immigrant shells adorn our…
Fancy bathrooms
Some work in them
On the street you may sell me
Sausages, tacos, gyros
And perhaps I’ll wave my extra single in the air
As I place it in the tip Styrofoam cup
It was either in there or in the stripper’s thong
(Come on elephants, I know you’re here
So sing along…
We sing it as “Rouse loud and imbibe hearty
Be festive in this gallant old party.
Godspeed, don’t waver through wetback dumps
And don’t slow down over ’Zona speedbumps
Lest ye may and lest ye might
Send another ’cross the border tonight
My dad’s a German and yours a spic
When daylight comes better get out quick
Whether cigar-smoking in Southampton or red in neck
We have ID’s to cash our checks
You better get yours and have it handy
Ain’t life here grand, fine, and dandy?
)

Dandelion, dandelion
Wherefore art thou dandelion?
Why aren’t you “Foxtail” or “Bearsmouth”?
Why are you associated with being white
And in what we delight
When you, too, are green, yellow…
And sometimes brown?
We like having you around
Sometimes…
