The Rose of Nightlife

I gave my Nightlife a Rose for the
Slumbering days and mountains of haze
That kept her Eyes agape at night like the
Changing color of Dreams caught in waves

When you don’t fall asleep I begin to weep
So cradle the pillow, flip to the cool side
And wait if there is nothing else to do
When the moon subsides so does the tide

Listen, here we go…

At night I hear them crashing
But realize it’s just a game
The waves may sound like thunder
But their Laughter is just the same

When Nightlife comes calling
‘Tis best to answer the phone
The mind a shifting wilderness
Yet the heart was always home

As long as the Sun still rises
The embers clutch their glow
Roots still search for water
Even when flowers do not show

Buried under intrepid days of rubble
The dog continues to scratch and paw
Sniffing the end of night and light of day
Stopping is against heart’s law

How does the gazelle outlast the cheetah
When both are on the run?
It keeps its mind clear, avoids thirst
And lets the heart soak up the Sun

The cheetah becomes exhausted
At every change of direction and sharp turn
The gazelle moves with the precision of a surfer
Carving a hieroglyphic crest upon an urn

The pattern seems unlikely
When less than 360 degrees are observed
But the nature of Nightlife is cyclical
Be focused and patient, thou shall be served

Upon the surface Nightlife seems unfair
When we all consider our Jobs
The trials, the suffering, the deaths
But decadence is the criminal that robs

Laughter is abundant
For perpetual hearts of smile
Take a ride in my Nightlife
And listen for a while:

The swells are always rolling
The waves crash on the shore
If you don’t hear them on this one night
In Tomorrow’s night listen for some more

Everlasting is the ocean
When Nightlife needs a home
Walk to the seashore
Feel the seaspray, taste the foam

This is the salt of tears
Fallen from those who love
The Rose of Nightlife formed here
In the Oceans from Heaven Above
