If You Perceive Me Fading

Now if you perceive me fading
While the day grows into night
Attain yourself match and candle
Stand near and be my guiding light

This time of year befalls weary
Radiant eyes and hearts alike
Delve deep to find source of goodness
Before they sour and turn to spite

When oft we loyal ourselves to the bone
And thy grace is not returned
Marrow is the wick of the candle
And at both ends it burns

An aspirin in the black of night
By chance falls of Heaven into hand
Pain leaves for fleeting moments
Conscience forgive me and understand

Planes fly though the darkened sky
With help from radio below
Boats sail through the darkened sea
Aided by harbor light’s soft glow

Squirrels are seldom heard from
The woodpecker stops its attack
Peacocks and turkeys roost on branches
To sleep in the cover of black

But the coaled heart is nocturnal
The diurnal loses its claim
Ventricles are marred with schizophrenia
Atria filter all blood just the same

But blood was confused in the motion
Heated and enraged befit it now
To save the soul find iron remnants
Plant and turn them with the plow

Cultivate nostalgia
Taste of its brightest flower
Be thankful for its goodness
Be grateful every hour

For every hour integrity is growing
And honesty supplements its nectar
Sincerity supports its branches
Leaves of benevolence its protector

But now there is such darkness
As the minutes caterpillar along
Sanity is playing opossum
The loris suffers in Summanus’ song

I have a vision of your sleeping
I’d like the image to be my own
The while I tend to glitter in the soil
Waiting for heart’s residue to grow

Walk a mile with Hades
Request a pick or spade
Harvest your life for emeralds
Run like hell through Death’s gate

An ember that is buried
Patiently rations His glow
Waiting for the harbinger
To flicker and guide you home

Oft we perceive forces conspiring
Freezing hearts’ in cruel law
Morning is growing nearer
The soul will begin to thaw

The hours that chase behind us
Are all and each the same
Tire not, be steadfast in running
If you desire to win the game

So if you perceive me fading
Consider structure of the cross
Shepherd me over troubled waters
Burn brightly and the heart is not lost
