Labyrinth

Labyrinth

Maze made of ice defrosting
Long straightaways
Traversed quickly with constant glide…

So many nice things to see along the way
Question is posed
To some: answer is undesirable

Some string he carried with him
Over his course
String that would not melt under sun's rays

Observers of the game:
“He’s wasting his time laying out that string”
“He doesn’t even have the right string”

Observers of the game:
Heroes from games past
Observers

Lots of string that boy has
Must be weighing him down
Warm it is beginning to get

Too quickly he moves?
So many wrong turns
Much energy expended from this one

Hair turning color of the frost
Joints aching from the cold
Much damage this maze has done

Hidden grin, silent laughter
Still he moves on
Frozen expression of nothing takes over

Observers grow tired of aggression:
“Fool is he for stubborn ways”
“Yes, fool is he”

Observers grow tired of aggression:
Heroes from games past
Observers

Again, the maze has won
Too much string, too much weight
Too much aggression, too much

***

Awkwardly she moves at times, yes?
She lets go
She grabs back on

Lets go she does
Grabs back onto
Lets go she does

Observers grow tired of the maze:
“I’ve seen this game before”
“Why does she grab back onto?”

Observers grow tired of the maze:
“She moves faster when she lets go”
Heroes

Maze with no exit
Sits and waits he does on the other side
Sun’s rays warm exponentially

Ice has thawed
Asleep the boy is
Observers have left

Slowly he awakes
“Where are the heroes?”
Long string remains: direct route
